APY (Annual Percentage Yield)

The annualized return on an investment that accounts for compounding — the reinvestment of earned rewards back into the principal.

APY is higher than APR when rewards are compounded. In DePIN, operators often quote APY for staking returns, but the quoted figure typically does not account for token price change or reward dilution. A 30% APY in a token that loses 50% of its USD value yields a net loss in dollar terms.
