Decentralized Storage

A network in which files are split, encrypted, and distributed across many independently operated nodes, with retrieval coordinated by a protocol rather than a central server.

Decentralized storage offers censorship resistance, geographic redundancy, and, at scale, competitive pricing with centralized cloud. Filecoin and Storj are the largest production networks. Files are stored as encrypted shards; no single node has access to a complete file, protecting user privacy.
