Staking

Slash

A penalty that destroys a portion of a validator's or operator's staked tokens in response to provably malicious or negligent behavior.

Slashing makes dishonest behavior economically irrational: the penalty value exceeds the potential gain from cheating. Common slash conditions include double-signing, reporting false coverage data, and extended offline periods beyond the allowed threshold. Delegators share slash risk proportionally.
